Low Energy

Low Energy? Try this One thing Now!…

Low Energy

Try this One thing for Energy

Are you feeling fatigue despite lifestyle changes?

Or maybe you haven’t tried any behavioral tweaks yet.

Either way, read on for better energy now…

Sleep- Try going to bed before 11:00 p.m.

There are two hormones in the sleep-wake cycle.

Sleep hormone– The sleep hormone is called Melatonin.

Did you know that Melatonin decreases at 11:00 p.m.?

…at that same time Melatonin goes down, the Stress hormone Cortisol increases.

Awake hormone- The “wake-up” hormone (aka “stress” hormone)

is called Cortisol

Cortisol kicks in at 11:00 p.m. (same time Melatonin decreases).

It is like a teeter-totter.

Cortisol is the “wake-up”  hormone.

That is good. When it is actually time to wake up, that is.

Cortisol is not good (when it is NOT time to wake up yet)…

at that point it acts as a “Stress” hormone.

Did you know that too much Cortisol causes extra belly fat?…

Try getting to bed before 11:00 p.m. and see how you feel!

Shhh, Hear the corn grow?…Listening meditation for Health

Travel Update: Shhh, Hear the Corn Grow?

Shhh, Hear the corn grow?…Listening meditation for Health

We are in Indiana now, surrounded by fields of corn.

We love their sweet corn (though not part of a low inflammation diet).

If ever in Indiana, try the sweet corn (if you don’t suffer from inflammation).

Peace and quiet.

You can hear yourself think… & see wind blowing through corn fields.

Must be where the saying came of “watching the corn grow.”

Yeah, yeah the saying is actually “watch the grass grow.”

I say instead, Listen to the corn grow.”

Increase Awareness with Listening Meditation

One way to increase our awareness

And relax our nervous system (besides with acupuncture) is to meditate.

…(Try Listening Meditation)…

I like to do a listening meditation while on a hike.

You could do it just sitting (inside or outside).

We spend so much time noticing our surroundings as they are filtered through one of our senses; through our eyes visually.

We focus so much on what we see. We actually miss many sounds around us.

It always amazes me what I hear for the first time in a familiar place.

Just by noticing through focused awareness on only one sense; hearing.

One time I heard a train nearby (never noticed it before).

…Until I did the Listening Meditation during this hike.

I was quite surprised.

It is also good for your brain to shift to paying attention in a different way.

Animals are much more in tuned with noises in their environment.

We can benefit from paying attention to the sounds around us, too.

Mindfulness meditation can help many things; Mood, Energy, Blood pressure.

Want to increase Mindfulness through Meditation?…

Winter Blues To Do List

For some, especially far north of the equator winter blues are no fun.

To Do List

1. Check Labs for “optimal” vitamin d level in your blood*

It takes time to build vitamin d in your body with supplements (pills or liquid).

If your vitamin d is very low a doctor may prescribe a one time high dosage pill of 50,000 IU’s of vitamin d.

(Commonly 1,000-5,000 IU is taken per day)…

50,000 IU at once is quite high! …Obviously your vitamin d level is quite low if a doctor prescribes this dose at once.

-You should have vitamin d checked annually-Even if you already are taking an anti-depressant and especially if prone to vitamin d deficiency.

Read Signs of vitamin D Deficiency Here

2. Do not ignore symptoms of severe depression. Get a mental health evaluation when needed. (Ask your Dr to check your vitamin d in labs, too)

3. Check for other deficiencies such as low iron/ferritin blood levels in labs.

Ask your doctor to order a blood panel of tests around your main complaint such as low energy or fatigue.

Try taking a magnesium supplement after checking with your doctor first. Be sure to use the correct type of magnesium for you!

4. Daily Movement/ Exercise

You can start out with slow, easy movements such as an intro yoga class, including chair yoga if your mobility/ movement is less right now.

Yoga and walking are both good for back pain. yoga helps keep the spine supple to avoid joint pain.

Walking can help back pain by means of the swinging back and forth motion of the arms.

Movement with others is even better for lifting our mood!

Movement as Play time is great for the mood!

5. Acupuncture &/or similar healing modality

Regular appointments with your licensed acupuncturist, massage therapist or chiropractor can really help manage the winter blues.

We know acupuncture has been shown to improve mood and relax the nervous system.

Foods for Glowing Skin and More…

Looking to Feeling Better AND Look Better, too?…

Look to Foods that help repair collagen, the connective tissues in the face and body.

It only makes sense that these same foods help lower inflammation and pain to help lower:

  • Joint pain
  • Headaches
  • General aches and Pains

Read Acupuncture & Other Tips for Joint Pain Here

Foods that have:

  • Color variety
  • Fiber
  • EFA’s
  • Water
  • Antioxidants
  • Antibiotic-free
  • Additives-free

Choose natural foods (not packaged nor over-refined).

Eat High fiber, natural foods such as many vegetables like peppers and avocados and pumpkin seeds.

Essential Fatty Acids (EFA’s) are necessary to hold up collagen to avoid severe wrinkles and breaking down of tissues in the body (Fish oil, nut oils, etc.)

  • Flax seed/ Flax oil
  • Sardines
  • Mackerel
  • Salmon
  • Walnuts
  • Pumpkin seeds

Foods in many (natural) colors:

-Eat colorful, antioxidant-rich foods like blueberries, raspberries (especially for fertility), spinach, kale, peppers

(unless you must avoid nightshades).

Avoid food color additives  (unless natural colorings such as beet juice powder)

Choose foods like avocados that are rich in fiber and good fat (easy to make guacamole in minutes to dip celery into)

Bell peppers in green, red, yellow and orange make great dipping replacements for chips and go well with hummus. Make your own to avoid hydrogenated oils, too!

Pumpkin seeds are high in EFA’s, fiber and Zinc (great for immunity).

Foods High in h20:

Foods high in water content plump the skin all over the body and help avoid dehydration and premature wrinkles.

Hydration also flushes the body, helping keep excess salt from damaging the internal organs, such as the kidneys…

–When kidneys have to overwork due to too much salt, kidneys may be  unable to remove enough water in the body; high blood pressure may result.

Avoid meats with antibiotics and additives:

Avoid foods with chemical additives such as added nitrates/nitrites used in deli meats and cheeses (naturally-occurring and celery-based is okay).

These unnatural added nitrates/nitrites can lead to things like gout which is very painful!

This cosmetic facial treatment that treats the entire body, not just the face.

So, we are addressing other systems in the body simultaneously as needed. Digestion for instance, may need some care shown to it during the treatment. This protocol treats your face and your body…It truly is a two-for-one acupuncture treatment!

What Are People Saying About Cosmetic Facial Acupuncture?

Patients report to me that their friends and relatives remark on how happy and healthy they look.

Then their friends ask them what they are doing differently.

They ask if they have changed their diet or started an exercise routine.

What Cosmetic Facial Acupuncture is…

Cosmetic Facial Acupuncture uses tiny acupuncture needles which are placed in the face.

These needles create “micro injuries” which tells the body to build collagen in the needled area.

More needles placed in more areas, means more collagen-building.

Large quantity of needles ensures that more surface area of the face is addressed.

The Mei Zen protocol is the only one to use this many needles!

At Aleesha D Acupuncture, the Mei Zen protocol is used on for Cosmetic Facial Acupuncture.

Acupuncture has been shown in studies to improve Fertility Percentage

Have You had 1 or 2 Failed IUI Fertility Treatments?

In general, only 3 rounds of IUI are attempted before IVF is seen as the next step.

IVF is more expensive and invasive and this is why IUI is often tried first.

If you are going on your 3rd round of IUI Fertility Treatments,

Get Acupuncture 1-2 times weekly before starting the process.

Ashwagandha for Anxiety!

Ash-what?

Ashwagandha is an Adaptogen herb.

It has been used within Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and Ayurvedic Medicine for quite some time.

What is an Adaptogen herb?

An adaptogen herb helps the body adapt to stress.

Ashwagandha helps…

  • Anxiety
  • Sleep
  • Stress

Why I like Ashwagandha…

Safety

Ashwagandha is very safe.

Compared with other adaptogens such as Ginkgo or Ginseng, which one should really take a break from using from time to time, Ashwagandha is not like that. Ginseng works somewhat like an upper-Ashwagandha is not like that at all. In fact, some women even take it while nursing, which of course is between the individual and their primary care doctor/ OBGYN doctor.

Effective

Ashwagandha works. It is very effective.

I do like others, such as Rhodiola. Though, Ashwagandha seems to work more often with my patients than Rhodiola.

Long-term

Ashwagandha is safe to use long-term.

Unlike some adaptogen herbs, Ashwagandha does not need to be stopped for a brief period of time, as others like Ginseng do.
